Sandra Kerby

Operations Director

 

Sandra Kerby is a 17-year veteran as an education specialist with expertise in education management, informal educational programming, and staff training.  Ms. Kerby received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Athens State University and her Master in Arts degree in Museum Studies from Johns Hopkins University, focusing on programming, leadership, and strategic planning.

Ms. Kerby began her career as a History Teacher and coach.  In this position, her main responsibility was to develop, design, and implement educational lessons for her students.  As a coach she developed athletic programs that promoted student responsibility, problem-solving skills, motivation, and student accountability.  Ms. Kerby was also selected to be on a committee to evaluate and determine the state utilized text books for middle and high school history in the state of Alabama.

Ms. Kerby served as the Director of Camp Operations at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center where she was responsible for all aspects of the operation and implementation of educational programs and policies, including the management of a staff of 175 part-time/seasonal educators.  Ms. Kerby was responsible for the implementation and management of the Space Academy for Educators Program; a professional development program which graduates over 600 teachers each summer.  In her oversight of Space Camp® her responsibilities included the implementation of all educational components of Camp programs and activities including curriculum, demonstrations, simulations, and day-to-day operations.  Ms. Kerby has designed and implemented several educational programs and curricula for groups whose sizes range from five to 300 and has reached more than 340,000 students internationally.  In addition, she has spearheaded collaborations with multiple organizations including Honeywell Inc., Rotary, University of Alabama Huntsville, and NASA to create custom educational programs to meet a variety of specific needs.

Ms. Kerby has a passion for education, curriculum design, training, staff and team development.  She joins the team to assist in leadership and team development through programs at Tenacity Grove, as well as building curriculum and policies for Camp Hope and Davidson Farms.
