The Huntsville Margarita Society gave a generous boost to Kids to Love’s Cottage Community Monday.
The society presented the Kids to Love Foundation with a $50,000 donation that will be used to support the Cottage Community at Davidson Farms.
“The outpouring of support Kids to Love has seen for our Cottage Community has been overwhelming,” Kids to Love Founder and CEO Lee Marshall said. “This community will provide support for young girls as they begin their careers or continue their education, and donations like this one from the Huntsville Margarita Society show that people see the value of investing in our girls.”
Davidson Farms is a home licensed by the state of Alabama for girls ages 10-19. The Cottage Community will give girls who age out of care their own place to live and begin a life of independence, while still receiving support and mentorship from Kids to Love.
The five homes being built for the Cottage Community are under construction with an expected completion date later this year. Recently, the houses were painted, and inside drywall work is underway.
Bill Chapman, president of the Huntsville Margarita Society, said the group recently began raising money in addition to its annual mission of collecting toys for children across the Tennessee Valley.
“Going forward, we've started to pick different charities to support year in and year out with that cash and this year, Kids to Love is the recipient,” Chapman said. “We're proud to be here.”
Kids to Love is still taking donations to stock the cottages with items for the girls. Through the Kids to Love Click, Ship, & Give program, anyone can buy items ranging from salt shakers to coffee makers to help Make It a Home. A link to shop for the items needed can be found on the Kids to Love website at https://www.kidstolove.org/click-ship-give.
Since 2004, Kids to Love has reached more than 293,000 foster children through its various programs, providing everything from backpacks to Christmas toys. Kids to Love is also a licensed child placing agency in the state of Alabama. For more information about Kids to Love, visit our website at kidstolove.org.
