The foundations are down and the walls are up at the Whitaker Cottage Community, and every day the cottages get a little closer to becoming homes for girls aging out of foster care.
Now you can help Pave the Way Home for the girls by buying a brick that will be used to construct the walkways to the cottages.
The bricks come in two sizes, 4 inches by 8 inches and 8 inches by 9 inches and can include a customized message.
Davidson Farms is Kids to Love’s foster home for girls ranging in age from 10 to 19. The Whitaker Cottage Community, located at Davidson Farms, will provide homes for girls who are aging out of the foster care system. Girls who live in the cottages will be able to continue their education or start a career while under the mentorship of Kids to Love.
“We’ve had such a great outpouring of support since we broke ground in 2020,” said Kids to Love Founder and CEO Lee Marshall. “The Whitaker family's donation was such a generous one that we wanted to honor them by including them in the Cottage Community's name. We also had companies all across North Alabama that gave time and materials to get these cottages built. When we asked people to shop online to help stock these cottages with all the items a home needs, they went to Amazon and bought every single thing we had on our shopping list.
“These bricks are another way people can support these girls on their road to independence and at the same time, they will be able to leave a lasting message at the Whitaker Cottage Community.”
Construction on the cottages is expected to be complete later this year. To buy a brick or paver, click here.
